We had discussed starting a family for sometime, but always agreed we would wait until I finished school and settled down in a job. Maybe those of you who have made the leap into parenthood have had this experience, but we found that once all of those things we said we wanted to do before we started trying to have a child happened that it seemed like we got to that point REALLY quickly! We decided that at the beginning of the year (2012) we would start "trying".
Late November 2011 roles around and it was time for me to make my annual visit to my doc.. after discussing some things he recommended that I maybe try a different BC pill. He told me it may take a few months to become effective and that if we were going to begin trying to start a family it may be better just to not change over at all. He also spoke with me about how it typically takes one 3-4 months to get back on track after stopping taking an oral contraceptive, and then possibly another few months to actually get pregnany. After considering these things, I took his advice and thought to myself... "What will 6 weeks before the start of 2012 really matter?". I discussed it with Jared and we figured it would be no big deal.... boy were we wrong!!
DECEMBER 23, 2012
Two days before Christmas Jared and I were getting ready to pack up for our usual Christmas travel plans.... Christmas Eve with his family and Christmas Day with mine. We both had to work 1/2 day on December 23rd, so weren't planning on heading to Troy until that afternoon. It had been approximately 3 1/2 weeks since I had seen the doctor, and wasn't sure exactly when I should expect to be back to normal. I told my co-worker, who is also pregnant, that I thought I may go buy a pregnancy test "just for the heck of it". I REALLY did not think it would be positive, but I thought I might just double check before any holiday wine or egg nog! I went to Winn-Dixie when I left work and got a pregnancy test and some Easy Mac (anyone who knows me well would not be surprised by that second purchase). I got home and Jared was already home packing his stuff. I didn't even tell him I bought a test because I was THAT sure it was going to be negative!! I put my Easy Mac in the microwave and quickly ran to the bathroom.
Three LONG minutes later... there it was... PREGNANT!!! I couldn't even believe it! I think I sat in the bathroom for about a minute in shock! I NEVER thought that it would only take a matter of a few weeks for this to happen! After I gained my composure I walked out and said "Jared (which he found odd because I rarely ever actually call him by his name).... we are having a baby!" Looking back I wish I would have thought a little more about it and had my phone out to video his reaction! It's permanently stuck in my head though... with a big, Jared-like smile... "DANG... THAT FAST?!". I will always cherish that moment in our first apartment, just the
Here are some of the REALLY CHEESY pictures I took when we first found out we were having a baby!!!
Until Next Time...
