I have been very blessed with an easy pregnancy!! I had some nausea from about week 5 to 9, and only got sick 3 times... I consider that a victory!! The first trimester seemed to DRAG on forever. We found out we were pregnant REALLY early (like at 3 weeks), so it was really difficult to play the waiting game. We decided not to make the pregnancy common knowledge until week 12... that was SO HARD! I had no idea how hard it would really be. Being the consumate worrier that I am, I just didn't want to tell people we were having a baby until we made it to what the doctor considered a "safe time to tell".
Our first appointment was January 4th... we were SO excited!! I didn't really know what to expect because I honestly had no idea at the time how pregnant I was. After a tinkle in the cup the nurse came in with a big brown bag full of pregnancy goodies. I was immediately a little bit relieved that their test also said I was pregnant, even though I had taken about 4 on my own! After meeting with Dr. Griggs he told us he wanted to do an ultrasound since we really didn't have a date to go by. I was elated.... we were going to get to see our Baby K for the first time!!! Well... my excitement was stifled when all I saw was this tiny spec (which I was informed was the yolk sac), and couldn't see or hear a heartbeat. I clearly watch too many movies, as I was expecting to see something this time!! I was nervous to talk to Dr. Griggs again... he came back in and told us "Yes you are pregnant, but barely." Typically at that point people don't even know they are pregnant yet.... so we were scheduled to come back in 2 weeks... LONGEST TWO WEEKS EVER!!! He did give us a due date at this appointment... September 11, 2012!
Our little Yolk Sac.... About 4 Weeks... Due Date September 11, 2012
I spent the next two weeks trying to keep myself occupied until it was time to go back to the doctor... finally... it was January 18.. time to go!!! We got to the doctors office and immediately were taken back to have an ultrasound. I was really nervous, and Jared (of course) was Mr. Cool Calm and Collected. He is much better at resting in the fact that things are in God's hands than I am... It is one of the things I admire so much about him! Enough of the husband sappiness... So... We go back and there Baby K is!!! We can SEE the heartbeat! It was SO AWESOME! We were both so happy to see that our little yolk sac had grown into a little bean with a heartbeat!! We saw Dr. Griggs after the ultrasound and he seemed very pleased to see our litte one had grown! We scheduled an appointment for 4 weeks out.... oh the waiting!!! We got a new due date at this appointment.... September 5, 2012!
Our Little Bean... About 7 Weeks...Due Date September 5, 2012
The second half of the first trimester went by a little quicker than the first! I was feeling REALLY tired and a little queazy in the afternoons and evenings... but overall I felt ok. We didn't really start taking any "Belly Pics" because there wasn't much to take yet... but here I am at 10 weeks (or so I thought at the time). We had such a good time at the Mardi Gras Ball with Jules and Adam!!
Our next appointment was on February 15! This was by far the least exciting of all the appointments!! I was really expecting we would get to try to hear the heartbeat... but our office has a policy that they don't let people hear the heartbeat until atleast 12 weeks!! I was a little bummed, BUT I got to find out what I really wanted to know.... when can we find out what Baby K is?!?! He told us we could get a "Gender Only' Ultrasound at 16 weeks... but we would have to pay extra! After a tiny bit of coaxing... we scheduled THE appointment.... this time we had to wait 5 weeks... but that was OK with me!!! =)
The first trimester was such a special time... only our close friends and family knew about Baby K, and it seemed like our little secret! I didn't really have many food quirks... I just REALLY loved pringles!! I ate ALOT during my first trimester... and went to the gym A LITTLE! Like I mentioned before I just felt SO exhausted all the time!! I was looking forward to that second trimester "energy" you always hear about!!! I was beyond blessed with such an easy road the first 12 weeks!
Until Next Time...
