All of the showers that have been thrown for Riggs have been so wonderful, and this shower was no exception! My mom has 3 sisters... June, Gayle, and Karen... and they are all very close. For as long as I can remember we spent most every holiday, birthday, and special event with my mom's side of the family, and I am so lucky to have aunts and cousins that are more like moms and sisters!
Our family shower was small and intimate, and I couldn't have asked for anything better! My mom, Jared's mom, my 3 aunts, my cousins Kari and Kristin, and one of my BFF's Britney and her sweet baby Gray came to the brunch. We missed my cousin Sara, but she had to work! =( It was on Saturday July 21 at one of the BEST places to eat ever... The Spot of Tea!! I LOVE their breakfast! For those of you that don't know... breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day and I could eat it for all 3 meals!! Jared and I actually had our rehearsal dinner at The Spot of Tea as well... so we definitely love it there!
I got another diaper cake!! I love diaper cakes, and this one had one VERY special component. My grandmother used to make these little clown dolls, and on top of our diaper cake was one of the clown dolls she made that now Riggs can enjoy! My grandmother was a master seamtress and could pretty much make anything!! She taught me everything (which isn't much, but it's definitely groundwork) that I know about sewing. I miss her so much and wish that she could be here to meet Riggs; however, she lives on in him because she is his namesake!!
We got to spend the morning eating delicious food, playing fun shower games, and enjoying each other's company!! One of the games we played was a nursery rhyme game... I learned that I need to SERIOUSLY brush up on my nursery rhyme skills before my little man gets here! I didn't do very well at that one at all! The other game was a Baby Trivia with some pretty interesting facts... did you know that President Tyler had 15 kids?!? If you didn't, you do now! =) Aunt June was the master at baby games and won both of them!
On top of the awesome Spot of Tea breakfast, we also had Gi Gi's cupcakes!! I LOVE Gi Gi's!!
I was SO excited to get our stroller at this shower!! My aunts and cousins were WAY too generous!! We also got more clothes for him, a bouncy seat (thank you Kristin!!), and all of the goodies that were on and inside the diaper cake (paci's, a wubba nub, paci clips, bottles, socks, and of course diapers!)
There was one last surprise that I definitely wasn't expecting! I have been ANXIOUSLY awaiting to get Riggs' bedding up to our house! A little back story... we picked out the fabric a few months ago and had a lady named Janet make his bedding for us! She is located in Mobile and couldn't get around to making it until this past month. My mom was supposed to go pick it up on Friday and then I was going to reimburse my mom for the cost of the bedding. Well, Friday when I got in town of course I ask about the bedding... Mom told me that she forgot to make the fitted sheets and that we would be able to pick it up Saturday afternoon. I didn't think much about it and just said ok! I still had one gift to open at the shower from my Aunt Karen.... low and behold... I open it... and there it was.... the bedding!!! I was so excited and very grateful to her for buying his bedding for us!
Overall it was such a wonderful morning and I am blessed beyond measure with such loving and wonderful aunts and cousins. Riggs is SO SO lucky and so am I!!!
