Well... my plans of blogging every week went out the window! Here we are... 5 weeks and 2 days after the arrival of our little man! I am glad I was able to get his birth story written because it already seems like it was a lifetime ago!! It's hard to know where to even begin...
One thing I know for sure... Parenthood is HARD work! I spent alot of time reading blogs and books before Riggs' arrival, but there is truly nothing that can prepare you for it! I now have such a new appreciation for all parents out there... especially single parents! Jared has been such a wonderful father and husband, and I can't imagine how someone brings home a newborn without the help and support of another person! This being said.... I wouldn't trade one single second of the time I have spent and will get to spend with Riggs. He has absolutely changed our lives for the better.
Riggs' first pediatrician visit went wonderfully! He was 7lb 9oz!! This is 5oz above his birth weight in only a week and a day!!! I was SO elated to hear this news. I am breast feeding and was SO consumed with fear that he wasn't getting enough to eat! Breast feeding is definitely not for the faint of heart! It was really tough the first few weeks, but I think we have gotten the hang of things. Some
days middle of the night I do wonder what it would be like to have Jared get up to feed him and me just stay asleep, but I enjoy the time it gives me with Riggs. Jared gets his time for Riggs' last feeding before bed time... he gives him a bottle and a swaddle! That is their special time and I enjoy watching every night!!
It is impossible to sum up the past 5 weeks in words! There are just a few of many things about him I will share, and I will let the pictures say the rest!! Riggs still has blue eyes and reddish, that's right, reddish hair! I will be shocked if he grows up to be a blue eyed boy with red hair (my guess is green eyes and brown hair), but only time will tell! He HATED the bath at first because we had to do the sponge bath and he was cold!! Now he LOVES bath time, and mommy loves it much more too!! Riggs is a squeaker and a grunter! He squeaks when he eats and grunts ALL THE TIME! Unfortunately, I think most of the grunting is due to gas, but it's still cute! He is a very gassy little man, and we are hoping to get this under control when we visit the pediatrician on Friday! He is has been holding his head up on his own (briefly) since week 1! He has a very sweet personality... he has started to coo and make the most precious little noises! I SWEAR he smiled at me (and not because of gas) one day last week, but I haven't seen it again!! He smiles on accident all the time! He absolutely LOVES his Daddy's voice. If he is upset it just takes Jared's LOUD voice to instantaneously calm him. His favorite thing to do is be outside! We try to take a walk every day, and he is always happy during this time! He also really likes car rides, his swing, and his nap nanny!!
Words can't express how much we love our Riggs! My goal is to update weekly from now on... we will see how that works out! Here are all of our Riggs pictures!!!!
Until Next Time....
